Gin & Tonic

Without fail, every Friday, I walk in the door and look forward to the weekend. Something that helps jump start that? A little drink. But only 1. Really after this is made, its all anyone really needs. Sometimes, if the boyfrind is home he has it waiting for me. Yep, every woman’s fantasy expectation.

I definitely like to drink, but I try to be responsible because apparently adults do that. I really don’t raid the liquor shelf until 5:00 rolls around. I gravitate towards the simple things, and you can’t get much simpler than a G & T. Winter, spring, summer, fall, no matter the season I love the Friday drink; it kind of signifies the start of the weekend and a few days rest from a monotonous job. Although I do switch it up a little.

Watermelon Sherbet

Summer has arrived and it is making itself nice and comfy. Are you feeling and loving the heat? I really hope so. After waiting for this weather for many, many, many months, and while I prefer the dry heat of California, this humidity is more welcome than any snowy day. Seriously. I will still be saying this until Autumn creeps in. You people that are already ready for chilly days are nuts. And we cannot be friends.

One of my favorite things about summer? Ice cream. Well, that’s just about my favorite thing anytime, but when it’s 85 degrees with 80% humidity ice cream is the only thing I want in my body. That and summer fruit. And it doesn’t get any summery than watermelon. I could sit and eat an entire watermelon and be perfectly content. I’m pretty sure I have done that too. A few times. So what is more perfect on a summer day than watermelon or ice cream? I know you know is one — I’ve been prepping you for this answer.

Peanut Butter & Honey Ice Cream Sandwiches

When I was little I wasn’t really a fan of jelly, I know it’s crazy. I’m glad I have seen the error of my ways. But back in the day, it just didn’t do anything for me. This posed a problem when the regular Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches were being made for lunches. I have nothing but love for peanut butter. Obviously.

To solve this conundrum  I was introduced to the awesome combo of Peanut Butter and Honey. It solved all my issues of the PB & J which every kindergartner must eat. It’s in the job description. If you haven’t discovered this yet, jump on that band wagon. You won’t be disappointed. To combine these flavors in ice cream?! Yes, it’s brilliant. I know. You should really use the best honey you can find, ours os from a Maryland farm that is perfect. This ice cream is great because the honey is sweet enough that not that much extra sugar is required. I’m probably going to combine all the snacks of my childhood into ice cream sandwiches. Oh childhood.

One Time I Was Stress Free

To say I’m Type A might be a bit of an understatement. Anyone who knows me even a little bit would probably say that is me when I’m sleeping. My stress level hits extreme levels more often than not and there is really no way of combatting that. My usual response is to cry, then throw something, then cry some more. Obviously I’m a toddler.

But once (yes, once) there was this time when I was completely stress-free. For a whole week. I know. Unheard of. Oh, and this was right in the middle of Stanley Cup Playoffs, which is pretty much guaranteed to bring my stress level from extreme to nuclear. But not even the Rangers/Capitals series could bring me out of my calm. Oh the magic of Belize.

My Other Lover

It’s no secret that I’m a little obsessed with California. Or that I’m a lot obsessed with New York City. And my most incredible boyfriend who would follow me anywhere if I let him. I fell hard for the latter two. You might even say love at first sight. And I’m falling hard again for a California. But this time it’s a different California.

My first relationship with the sunniest state left me jaded and bitter, like any first relationship will. I needed a rebound and fast. What I thought would be quick jaunt with bright lights and metro cards turned into an everlasting love, one that I can’t seem to ever get over. And that’s OK. New York is my city love.

But this New California? So much love and adventure and beauty I never knew existed. It like the first relationship that has changed into everything I want it to be, because it realized what I want and need. Not beachy towns, surfers everywhere, or dirty Los Angeles. It’s wine country and the freshest food I have ever tasted. It’s hot days sandwiched by foggy mornings and chilly nights. It’s the Redwoods, where the river meets the ocean, and driving for miles not sure what I’ll find. Sailing towns, and a semi city, covered in fog to provide the energy when I need it. Leggings, flip flops, and my fleece can become my uniform. I want all these adventures with my favorite Princeton accessory.

I first discovered all this with him and everything is always so much better when he tags along on my indecisive life. Last time I was in The Russian River Valley I was blown away by it all. The city was exciting and calming as a sourdough boule was consumed with Monterey Jack and soppresata in Union Square. The Valley provided a break from it all and I want that break to last forever The tears started flowing as soon as I stepped into the airport, as they often do when I am forced to return to DC. Coming back someday was not an option, it was essential.

Two years later, this time was spent wine tasting for a day, eating delicious food 75% of the time, and thoughts of packing up my east coast life to settle in Healdsburg. Farmers market heaven, ice cream, and slow roasted bacon fat consumption. It was also spent without my favorite person, which strangely makes it just half as great. Teleportation would be awesome, My boyfriend is a rocket scientist, so he’s working on it. The Bay, the Farmers Markets, the vineyards, the Pacific, the city, the heat, I could go on forever. I’m in love, again. No one ever said you only have room for one love in your life. I definitely have room for multiples. And being the most indecisive person ever, it’s essential. But you know the best thing? The blending of all my loves into one awesome life. I’m one month into 29 and life is just now starting to feel right. Let’s keep this up from now on.
