Have you ever been so addicted to something it consumes all thoughts and activities? So much so that consumption of said item only makes you more addicted? Welcome to my life. I’m not into drugs, sugar is my drug and Georgetown cupcakes are crack. I realize this may sound strange especially since they are not even my favorite cupcakes but there is something about them that makes you a cupcake fiend. I first discovered these when a friend of mine in New York moved to DC and began this infatuation. So when I moved to DC I wasn’t sure whether to be excited or scared to be so close to this sugar fix. And when you have a TV show about your bakery it’s only a matter of time before you find your way to NYC. Unlike their shop in Georgetown, this location is on a quiet street in SoHo and you could easily walk by. I actually did. Twice. But turn right around and go in. Please. You’ll thank me. I’m about to drop a fact bomb and it will blow your mind. Did you know that Georgetown Cupcakes gives away 100 cupcakes a day. For FREE? Yep. If you find out the secret cupcake (via Facebook, Twitter) and ask for it by name, it’s yours. To eat. For free. You’re welcome. And thats exactly how this assessment session started.
Today we have Cranberry and it tastes slightly like Christmas. Like every single cupcake I’ve stuffed in my face from here, the frosting is smooth and uniform, no complaints here. My first bite was perfect: good flavors of orange and cranberry, and not too sweet, with a good balance. The cake itself has good flavor, a moist crumb, but was a bit dense and tastes more like a muffin than a cupcake. The frosting is slightly tangy but not too sweet so it goes very well with the subtle fruit flavors. Georgetown Cupcake produces a solid, flavorful cupcake.
Being that the holidays have invaded and I’m a huge fan of all things peppermint, I broke down and got a White Chocolate Peppermint cupcake too. Whoa, guys. If anyone know how to to the super sweet flavors of white chocolate and peppermint, it’s GTown Cupcake. Yes, this cupcake is insanely sweet, but it’s also insanely good. The cake is much more my style than the Cranberry; soft, moist, fine crumb, with a burst of white chocolate bits. Definitely loving this. The frosting was light and creamy with an intense peppermint flavor. There is the perfect proportion of cake and frosting so every flavor is present in every bite. I’m loving this cupcake because every single flavor described is present. And that is a rare occurrence for most of the cakes I’ve tasted before.
